Huge events on the London horizon

To say that there is a lot going on in London would be a massive understatement. Every day, there are loads of concerts, theatre shows, and sporting events taking place, which means that there is plenty to do, no matter what your preferences are. Here are some of the most important events taking place in the capital over the coming year

 

Summer Olympics

 

In the summer of 2012, The East End of London will be swamped with sports fans at one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the Summer Olympics. While most of the tickets have been sold, it is still possible to buy tickets from third party suppliers. Also, there should be more than a few extravagant parties going on in the city hosted by the various countries involved, so it should be fun regardless of whether you see any sport or not.

 

Wimbledon 2012

 

The biggest event on the tennis calendar occurs on an annual basis in Wimbledon in London. It features all your favourite tennis superstars, such as Novak Djokovic, Venus Williams and Andy Murray. This iconic sporting event attracts about 500,000 spectators, to descend on South West London to support players from around the world battle it out on the lawns of SW19.

 

The Notting Hill Carnival

 

The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual Caribbean parade that takes place every August in West London. The event gets bigger and better with every passing year, featuring twenty miles of crazy outfits, forty live music stages, a massive steel band contest, lots of superb performances by dancers and musicians, and loads of stalls selling all manner of things. Last years carnival attracted over one million revellers from around the world, and this number is expected to be even higher next year.

 

Christmas in London

 

London certainly does not do Christmas by halves, with massive decorated trees and the most amazing Christmas lights you will ever see. Also, there are many other attractions, such as funfairs, circuses, parades, and lots of other fun events to keep you occupied. If you want to do something totally insane, you could go for a swim in the Serpentine ponds in Hyde Park along with lots of other nutcases on Christmas day, or there is always the option of doing a 5K run dressed up as Santa Claus through the park in Greenwich.

 

Hard Rock Calling At Hyde Park

 

This massive open-air rock concert is held in Hyde Park every summer, which has played host to some massive acts over the past couple of years such as Paul McCartney, The Killers, Rod Stewart, and Bon Jovi.
